Leave A Comment For Asher
By CJ Mills on May 22, 2008 in asher
Given the unique circumstances of Asher’s entrance into the world, we haven’t really been able to do all the “fun” baby book stuff that we would have liked to do. As a result, I’d like to try something with the several 100 of you who have been checking in on a regular basis.
Here is what I’d like you to do:
1) Leave a short message
2) Let Asher know who you are and
3) Where you’re from
We will take all of the comments, prayers and words of encouragement and place those in Asher’s baby book for him to remember the many people who were thinking about him before they ever met him.
It has been encouraging to see how many people are thinking about us!
Let Asher know you’re thinking about him here.
This post is in support of Carlos Whittaker’s Creative Chaos.

Hey Little Buddy. I am your “uncle” Andy and I live in Alpharetta, GA. I was with your parents at Hilton Head when your mom went into labor. I was the one who took your mom to the hospital and took care of your sister for the first day (boy was she was not happy about that).
I felt a little bad, because on the way to the hospital, when we thought your mom was fine, I told her, in my normal “I am trying to be funny but not really funny tone,” that I wanted her to have you because it would make for the best story. Well, you must have been listening because four hours from that comment you graced us with your presence.
The next couple of days were incredibly stressful for me and your dad, but it was totally worth it when I walked into the NNICU in Charleston and saw you there.
You were bigger than all the other babies in there, which was a sign to me at least that everything was going to be just fine.
Your dad had to pry me away after I made a b-line (and cut him off) so I could look at and touch your face.
It was truly one of the most special moments I have ever had in my life and I feel truly blessed to have been apart of it from day 1.

Asher, me and my husband Jonathan are good friends with your mom and dad. We live a block away from you. Your sister has a special place in our hearts. We love our time with her. We are so excited for you to come home so we can get to know you and love you. We look forward to the day when (like your sister) you come to our house, ring the doorbell, and say “Aly want to play?” You are a little fighter and we know God has great things planned for your life.

Asher,
What a blessing I know you already are to so many people, but most importantly your two loving parents. As difficult as I’m sure it is and was to see you fight for life, I can only imagine that your parents in their fear and sadness for you have held their head high with pride as they watch you, their little boy, do everything you can to be able to just rest in their arms. What a miracle you are! What great things I’m sure God has in store for you as I’m sure He is already at work in helping you become the boy and the man He created you to be. I look forward as a second cousin to watch you grow and see your fighting spirit keep your parents on their toes in the years to come.

Asher,
I have known your parents for a long time and have had the privledge to watch them grow and mature (your dad had to go much further then your mom), and to watch there relationship grow and develop. I was even in their wedding. You are very lucky to have parents that care so much about you. You are also very lucky to have a really great support family around you. You have some incredible aunts and uncles that love and will care for you all your life. Birth is a miracle in and of itself, and yours was nothing short of that. As I look at your picture I see the uniqueness that God put in you through your parents and can’t wait to see all that God does in and through you. You probably don’t know this but God is forming in you a passion that one day will explode into a gift to the world. I can’t wait to see it!

Hi little Asher,
Our family is: Chris, Lori, Brooke & Brianna . We know your dad and mom through College Park Church. Turns out your dad and Chris are the same type of people. “Geeks”. By the time your old enough to read this, we will both be amazed at what kind of technology advances their have been made in the world. And their probably won’t be such a thing as “blogs” and “twitter”. We’ll have ticker watches we read feeds that transmit our thoughts from our brains to an RFID chip and uplinks the thought stream to a satellite and we can watch tickers go buy on our wrist what our friends are up to. Keep fighting and grow strong. Mom and Dad are good people. Turns out they sing and play music too, exceptional talents, though if you ask them about it now, they may deny their abilities. Don’t let them fool you into singing you a lullaby song.

I am your “honorary great aunt.” I was thrilled to find out on March 10th after your mommy’s dr. appt. that she was going to have a boy, YOU! I took your mommy shopping almost right away and we bought you many cute outfits in anticipation of your arrival in July! Boy did you fool us! =] Most of those outfits will have to be returned or exchanged for sizes that fit you! (But don’t worry, your mom is a MASTER when it comes to trading and exchanging!!!) This is just the beginning of a lifetime of love and spoiling that I can’t wait to do for you! Your big sister Jadyn is very special to me too, just like your mommy and daddy are! God has put you in a very special family and I know that your life will be a full and wonderful one! I have already watched you melt your mommy’s heart, make your dad’s heart swell with pride and create a soft spot in your sister’s heart for you. You are one special little boy and I can’t wait to see you for the first time! Much love and many prayers, “Aunt” Brooke

Baby Ruth who also was almost 2 months early was in Illinois when she decided to enter this world then was transported to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Sorry about the goof but I had to correct myself before some of the family decided to ship me off to the funny farm because of my senility.

Why hello there little buddy –
This is your Aunt Angela…Welcome to the family. We are so glad you’re here…and that you didn’t get the “always late Mills family gene.” You are so lucky to have the Mom and Dad that you do.
When I have kids, I’m going to pay your mom to raise them. Just kidding. But I’m hoping for a “How-To” book (no pressure, Andrea). Your mommy’s going to teach you all kinds of stuff before you even get to school, it’ll be awesome.
When I was little, your daddy taught me how to play all sorts of sports – how to bunt in softball, how to correctly kick a soccer ball, and so on. So, if sports are something you decide to pursue, you’ll have an awesome coach in your dad.
Your big sister is pretty awesome, too. I know she’ll be great with you because she loves taking care of people. One time she encouraged me to climb a slide and cheered me on and even spotted me while I climbed the ladder, she’s also great at kissing boo-boos and telling you it’ll be ok (she learned from your Mommy), and she always looks out for the baby dolls and tries to feed them before she will eat. Bottom line, she’s got your back. And so does the whole fam. Love you and can’t wait to see you in person!
Love,
.angela.

Hi Asher,
I work with your grandma and she shared with us all the news about your birth, how mom and dad were doing, and about how well you were and are doing. She loves you very much and cried tears of worry about you and your mom and dad, shared the joy of hearing about everyone who helped mom and dad while they worried about you, praised God for the miracle of you and for all the postive things that were happening, and shared your daddy’s and Andy’s websites with us so we could see your pictures and read the story of your birth. Perhaps the greatest thing for me was the beautiful picture your dad made of the sunset and your sweet face. I knew then that you would soon be coming home for it personified all the glory that is our Heavenly Father. God is good and may you always know him in your heart.

As we celebrate your unexpected arrival, we also continue to pray for you unceasingly. Keep fighting little man. You are a very precious gift and a wonderful addition to our ever growing family. I can’t wait to meet you!!
P.S. Don’t let Jade boss you around too

Hey Little Man,
I am your aunt Kelly, better known as Lexi and Jarin’s mommy. They are your cousins and they love you very much. They are always asking me if we can get on the computer and see pictures of you and your sister. Jarin has even figured out how to log on to your blog by himself. He is pretty computer savy seeing as how he is only 4 years old.
Your zest for life continues to amaze me; you are one tough little guy. I am excited to see the ways that God has shown his amazing powers, and will continue to show, through you. He must have some amazing plans in store for you. Your miraculous entrance into this world is just the start. I am excited to watch you grow and can’t wait to see His plan for your life unfold.
I hope you know how much I love you and that I will always be here for you. I can’t wait to meet. Until then, continue fighting and know we love you and are praying for you.
Love Always,
Aunt Kelly

Hello there, this is your uncle Nate and hopefully someday your dentist (that is if I don’t mess up Mommy and Daddy’s teeth). I live in Auburn Indiana with your aunt Kelly, your cousin Alexis and your other crazy little cousin Jarin. All I have to say is its good to have another dude in our family of many women.
On a more serious note, your entrance into this world has been very eventful but yet a wonderful blessing to not only your parents but also your uncle Nate as well. You see, it is not every day that I get to see the power of prayer played out in my own life. Being here in Indiana we felt powerless to help you or your parents. However, through prayer we were able to help from many miles away. God has revealed his power to me each day as we have recieved good news of your progress. Many times throughout each day I have stopped to ask the Lord’s blessing over you and your parents. It has been very humbling to see him work in your life and reminds me of his goodness towards us whom he loves.
I will continue to pray for you until everything is ok and you get to go home. We eagerly await your arrival here in Indiana. See you soon.
Uncle Nate

Good morning Asher….it’s Grandma Nancy. I am so excited that you are coming home tomorrow and bringing you mommy and daddy with you! It will make it a very beautiful day!! I showed your picture on the front screen at church yesterday morning, so that everyone could see who they are praying for and a very loud “ahhhhhhhhhhhh” went through the sanctuary!! Your life fills me with awe of the power of our God and I am so blessed to be able to share in your life. There are not sufficient words to tell you how much I love you….I will see you soon.
Love,
Grandma

What a grand entrance into this world you made. With each day the miracle of your life unfolds- and so it will whether you be 8 weeks early or a 100 years old. Know that wherever you go in life, whatever you do that you will never be without a large family that loves you dearly.

What a strong man and fighter you are. I look forward to meeting you. You have wonderful parents. They care so much for you, as well as all of us. They will teach you so much and have prayed and cried over you so much. You have great grandparents and aunts and uncles as well. The Sherck family gathering will be lots of fun for you as get older. It is kinda chaotic with all of us, but there are lots of kids your age that would love to play with you. We have been praying for you, and know God will provide.
We love you and can’t wait to meet you.

I met your daddy in high school, and I know he will take great care of you! Your mom sounds like such a sweet lady too! I know exactly what she has been going through lately, but it sounds like she is staying strong!
I just wanted to let you know that you have to be the cutest baby ever! It sounds like you had such a rough time coming into this world….but it’s worth it in the end! We love you!

Dear little Asher,
While I don’t yet know you, I hope I will one day get that privilege. However, I can let you in a something that is very important to you both now and in your future. And that is that your mom and dad love you a whole lot and that they are wonderful, wonderful people.
It’s too bad, but not as many little people, like you, enter the world these days with the kind of love and commitment that your mom and dad have for you, for each other, and for your very big sister.
Right now, I’m trying to stay out of your mom and dad’s hair and out of the way of all the doctors and nurses and other caregivers that you’re needing to get to know. But I pray for you, and my Lizzie - who you don’t yet know either, but will - prays for you that you will be doing well really soon. We know how hard things can be.
But never lose hope.
God bless you, my sweet little one.

I have been friends with your mom since late elementary school and your dad since middle school. They are wonderful people and God has truly blessed your beginning by placing you in their family. I won’t see you often but I think about your family a lot and I can’t wait to see you grow up! I’m sure God has big plans for you and it will be fun to watch. Give my love to your mom and dad. Can’t wait to meet you, Allison

Asher, I just wanted you to know that you and your mommy & daddy and sister were prayed for the last two Sunday’s during prayer time at the First Church of God in LaGrange, IN. Also our prayer network was notified shortly after you were born so all could pray especially for you.
Our Pastor told about you the first Sunday and ask me to update this past Sunday also different ones have contacted to ask how you are doing.
I was so happy to read on Daddy’s twitter that you had arrived in Ft. Wayne. I followed the progress all morning. I love you…..”GG”

Asher,
Even reading these notes you probably will not know exactly how special you are to your parents and what they are willing to endure to make sure you have the best start to your life. I work with your daddy and know how crazy with worry and how filled with love at the same time he is for you, even if it did take him a week to finally hold you. You are a very special child and already hold the hearts of many. Continue to be strong because it will get you through the tough times facing you now and all the tough times yet to come. And don’t forget to tell your mom and dad that you love them because they sure love you.

Asher James! I know everyone says you came early, but we know the secret…you came exactly when you were supposed to. God knew you were meant to be a Carolina boy!
You are a very blessed little guy! You have wonderful parents who love you a whole lot! I know them from college; I was on the worship team with your daddy for a while, too! Your name is on my bathroom mirror at home and will stay there for a while so I remember to pray for you every day! It’s amazing to see how already in your few days on this earth you’ve brought so many people closer to Christ, and I pray that you will continue to do that for many years to come!

Hey Asher: Your grandma Mills called me when she heard your mommy was in labor. I was so surprised and worried for you and your mommy and daddy. Your extended family here in LaGrange began to pray for all of you immediately. The Church of God prayer chain was started and that was all we could do. It doesn’t seem like enough sometimes and yet we know God is in control! I have been reading about you and I am so impressed with your daddy. I’ve learned more about him through this time of unexpected blessings. He is a wonderful husband and daddy and I am so happy to see how my nephew loves all of you and puts his trust in God. Our love to all of you. Aunt Cindy and Uncle Marvin

We haven’t met yet, but I want you to know how much I love you and your entire family. My husband Matt and I have been praying for you and your family over the phone together since I am away at school in Maryland. We are so proud of you for being so strong! I wish that I was home to visit you in the hospital and be there for your mom, but know that my heart is there. Technically I’m your cousin, but you can think of me as the crazy aunt that lives down the street if you want to. I’ll always be there for you and your sister, and you both will always be in my prayers. I love you!

Hi Asher,
My name is Ramona Fisher and your parents are very dear to me. God has given you a Mom and Dad that will love you, care for you and do all they can to ensure that you know how much God loves you. Your Dad and Mom invested so much into my son’s life, Matt, when he was in middle school and high school. I feel like I could never repay them for the gift they gave to me as a mother. Now that Matt’s in college I don’t see your parents as often but I keep thinking about you, wondering how you are doing and praying for you every day.
Love,
Ramona Fisher

I don’t know you or your family, just your aunt Angela. We went to college together. Shes been telling me all about how she was so excited that she was having a nephew. We talked about the fun things i have done with my nephews. Then she told me that you decided to come early. I tried to keep everything positive. Every time you do something new and great she lets me know. I read all about you on this blog. It is amazing how far you have come already. You look so big! You even got to come closer to home. I pray for you and your family every night to make you guys strong and to safely get through this hard time. I just read about this last week about how you cant keep your temp up. Just take your time, I hope that when you finally do come home you are as healthy as can be. The near future is going to be a rough road for you and your family, but in the end it will be a great learning experience. I cant wait to continue reading about all your big obstacles that you overcome. God Bless
Love,
Lindsey

Hi Asher- I am very glad and relieved that you are now out of the hospital and home with your family. I have had you in my thoughts and prayers especially when last week you almost went home- then did not make it. The news that you were able to come home through the grace of God is truly inspirational. May your blessings multiply in the years to come. I will continue to follow you and your family thru the blog, and share inspirations with my family and other church members here in the Temecula Valley(in Southern California)

Dear AJ (I wonder if that nickname will stick. ‘Ol CJ’s did),
You’ve entered the world with much adversity, but also amidst much love from warm parents and helpful friends. Life won’t get easier, and, given the manner of your arrival, might get very difficult. But always keep in mind that you have those same warm parents, a knowledgeable big sister, and the many helpful friends to encourage you and offer advice. It’s easy to overlook people, to take their presence for granted, but constantly seek out friendship and you will always find a helping hand and a willing ear. And in all, God is. A motto I found on the back of my Message:Remixed Bible is one I hold is worth sharing.
Read. Think. Pray. Live.
Read: expand your mind, your opinions, your experiences, your vocabulary
Think: critically examine your situations, the past, the present, the future, what you just read, what the media is saying
Pray: depend on the Lord. Prayer is more than a time just for forgiveness and supplication–it’s a time to mentally and physical act to acknowledge God as Lord
Live: employ all that you’ve read, thought about, and prayed about. Do your best
To add to this list: exercise; eat well; sleep well; laugh heartily; become a die-hard fan of a sports team; take education seriously
I’m hoping to be able to discuss this all when you’re older, when your father pulls this note out of the TimeCapsule he’s buried in the backyard. It would be something special….
