Little Victories - Asher Airlines

I know what you’re all thinking - this dude has WAY too much time on his hands. Well, you’re right. There is only so much we can do with Ash in the hospital connected to 20 different wires and machines. I don’t do well in that kind of environment, so I try to burn time in other ways. Normally, I’ll burn time checking in on things at the office, but since the internet connection around here is sketchy, I photoshop my baby boy in aviators and a pilot garb

….I digress….

Yesterday was full of little victories. Towards the end of the day, we had the biggest little victory so far - confirmed air transport for Asher. The Medical Air Crew will pick Andrea and Ash up at the NNICU on Tuesday at 9:00. It was a little scary signing a form that states our credit card will pick up the charges if the insurance company declines; however, our good friend Pat assures us that is normal and we should be OK. To make matters worse, all of this was going on while I was trying to close a large account before close of business (which I did, but it was a close one!). Needless to say, it was a pretty stressful couple of hours.

The Medical Flight Crew will fly him to Fort Wayne and then transport him (and Andrea) to Lutheran, which will be his new home for the next few weeks. The Doctors have said he could be in Lutheran through his due date (late July), but given his size and progress thus far, they believe he will be released earlier.

The only snag in all of this great news was trying to figure out how I would get home as the transport team only allowed for one additional passenger. Fortunately for me I’ve got an incredible work family at American Specialty who was working that one out for me. Pete, our President and CEO, called my cell to inform me of the details of my transport home. I was absolutely blown away. Now I am able to completely focus on my wife and little boy and not how or when I’m going to get home. I will actually fly out of the same FBO as Andrea and Asher and arrive at about the same time they do. It will be like I’m right there with them, which is a huge blessing. Thanks Pete and the team at American Specialty!

Now all that is left to do is love on my little boy and hope that he continues to progress without any issues. Even though the transport home is all figured out, it is completely dependent upon his health and status. Given how he has shown himself to be a fighter up to this point, I expect nothing less of the little guy.

The next few days will be tough as we sit and wait for Tuesday to come. We’ll continue to keep you all update here and we thank you all for your support! I’m continually adding to the list of cool stories developed out of this adventure and look forward to posting that when we are back home.

If you haven’t had a chance, stop over here and leave Asher a note for his baby book.

CJ I love reading your blog. It’s great to see your personality shining through. I especially love reading it now that there’s special news about our little grandson. Can’t wait to have you all safely home and see that new little guy. (Boy he sure looks spiffy in his airline outfit.)

CJ and Andrea, Your Uncle Pat and me are so happy that Asher is doing great. We are keeping you in our prayers. The pictures that we see helps us to see his progress. He sure looks wonderful. It will be nice when everyone is back in Fort Wayne.
