Positive Post Tuesday - Chris Sherck
By CJ Mills on Jun 10, 2008 in family
I’ve got a great family. All of my cousins are amazing and even though my immediate family is the only one in the bunch that didn’t grow up in LaGrange, IN, we are all still pretty close. The oldest of my cousins is Chris - all around great guy and one you want in your corner when times get tough. Chris’s first child, Malachi, is a walking miracle. In December of 2004, after turning a month old, he became very ill. Malachi’s intestine had twisted, causing a loss of blood flow and rot. This is known as Short Gut Syndrome. After working on that issue, his liver started to fail and required a partial transplant from Chris’s wife and brother-in-law. (To get the full story, you really need to check out Malachi’s Journal here as my summary does not even begin to describe what Chris went through.) Not too long ago, Chris’s daughter was born premature, much like Asher. Can you imagine going through all that they did with Malachi, and then have the stress of a premature baby girl?!
Needless to say, Chris has been through some tough times in the past few years and has figured out a way to cope with the stress and anxiety. He was very supportive of Andrea and I as we went through everything with Asher. Life has definitely not been easy for Chris and his family, but somehow he still manages to keep his heads up. Thanks, Chris, for the example you laid out in my life and the many lives of others that have come to know you and your miracle babies!

Wow, how small the world is with Internet. We know of your cousin’s as our son was born premature, his intestines perf’ed and he was flown to Riley Hospital, in Indy. He has short gut as well. The nurses who took care of Malachi also took care of our son. We live in northwest Indiana. I found your blog through the Owens family. Wishing your family the best.
