Name Calling For Everyone!
By CJ Mills on Jul 24, 2008 in random

When Asher was born, I joked about calling him Ashtray, but Andrea wasn’t a big fan. The other day, I caught myself actually calling him that and began to think about all the weird/strange/bad nicknames I had. Probably the best worst nickname I could remember was during elementary school. One of my friends would sometimes call me “Turdus” (you know, Turd and Curtis mixed) just to get a rise out of me. It wasn’t much later that I started to go by “CJ”…. coincidence? Maybe….*sigh*
How about you, what is your best worst nickname? What is the best worst nickname you have heard? Let me hear it!

LOL.. Turdus.. Im sorry..but that is kinda funny. Some how I got the nickname “Skippy” in high school…. from all people my Accounting Teacher. Then it just spread from there. I hated it. Thankfully with the name Adam you can really do much damage.. unlike turdus.. LOL ok I’m seriously laughing overe here.. Sorry man.

I feel better hearing your nickname so will share the many that I acquired while in school. There was aly bopper, alligator, alice in wonderland (which I can’t bring myself to watch to this day), and the one that brought me to tears - aly oops. The reason it made me cry was because a boy called me that and said that is what my parents said when they found out about me. I didn’t like thinking I was a mistake. As I got older, aly is the one that stuck and I was happy with that. I love hearing “aly” when Jadyn sees me and runs to me with hugs.

I think mine was ‘poky’ I was 14 and my neighbor and I were hanging out with a girl down the street who was trying to be sexy. Justin decided it would be funny to call me poky. You could only imagine why… only it wasn’t true…
We used to call this girl in elementary school Treedork because her name was Teresa.

I win this competition. My Greek last name is Asolas… (uh-soul-issss) But since third grade, people have been calling me Ass-hole-less.
Whats worse is I that I get it from my co-workers the most… and I’m a full-time pastor!

Dude seriously! I never knew that. I am definitely calling your Turdus for now on.

These are some awesome nicknames. I’m glad I was able to make some of you (Adam) laugh at my expense….although, I do agree that Nick’s is probably the best so far….Pokey comes a close second…

I secretly call Asher The Ashman. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when Kramer gets the wrong vanity plates.
Personally, I never really had a nick name that stuck…sure I had to deal with “Messy Marvin,” or “Starvin Marvin” but no one could come up with anything original and they only dared to call me those others once…just once.

i thought of one! my father-in-law was nicknamed “skeeter” in college. and he’s not even a redneck!
Brad Ruggles | Jul 24, 2008 | Reply
Yeah, Nick “Ass-hole-less” takes the cake! lol
The worst I’ve been called was bruggles (brad & ruggles) but I really don’t mind that. I’m not too crazy about Bradley though.
CJ Mills | Jul 24, 2008 | Reply
@Marvin: The Ashman sounds a lot better than Ashtray…
@mandy: skeeter is a sweet nickname - redneck or not!
@Brad: Bradley, huh? Would that classify as a nickname? Especially since it is the “daddy” to Brad?

I vote for “AJ”.
Coach Mauch (for Canterbury HS soccer) always called me “O’Dorkel”. I found it endearing.

With a last name of Sarver…many called me Saver…short of Life Savers. It’s lame, I know. Now, being a Family Ministries Director, what’s amazing is that some of the kids call my wife Mrs. Saver. Sometimes, they even go with Skittles as it is obviously a close candy relative to Life Savers…

Marvin forgot a major nickname from Spanish class that has always stuck in my head…
Chui (spelling?) pronounced “chewy”
So of course Chui McNew-y was the name that stuck. I still think of him as Chui…
So since I embarrassed Marvin I’ll share mine…Jodi Hips of Steel from my maiden name of Hippensteel. Nice huh?
CJ Mills | Jul 24, 2008 | Reply
@Jon - only you would find “O’Dorkel” endearing….in fact, only you would use the word endearing in a blog comment - well done brother!
Life Sarver is pretty clever, but I’m a big fan of Chui McNew-y….I may have to pull that one out next time I’m with him!

Hey Jodi - That hurts, because I never knew of that of that nickname…that means I was being called that behind my back…I always thought you were one of the nice ones. My favorite was Matt’s name in Spanish class…super mario!
CJ- don’t go there…you won’t like me when I’m angry.
CJ Mills | Jul 24, 2008 | Reply
Marvin - I may need some clarification: by angry, do you mean throwing CD’s during a set rehearsal?
Marvin | Jul 25, 2008 | Reply
That would be just the beginning…
but, speaking of CD’s…thanks!

Marvin,
I’m so sorry you had to find out this way after all these years…
But I looked up “Chui” and it means really super nice guy who everybody likes and is just darn cool…
so it fits you perfectly!

alright Jodi…I just can’t stay mad at you ; ) okay, maybe I wasn’t really mad at all. Hope things are well for you!
CJ- thanks for letting Jodi and I work this through on your blog

who would have though a post on name calling would turn into a healing session?!?!
Greg Maitrejean | Jul 25, 2008 | Reply
Well, you found a chord that strikes with me, so here are my least-liked nicknames: Beeker (as in from the Muppets) and Neutrogena- which played off of Maitrejean, my last name… haha… and the only other nickname that had any meaning, well, it is still used today by me as my user name on the web, maitro. My old scoutmaster tagged that one on, and I still have a chuckle periodically with my old best friend, his son…
CJ Mills | Jul 25, 2008 | Reply
Neutrogena is definitely a new one!
