Daddy Day (or night) Care
By CJ Mills on Aug 19, 2008 in parenting

I feared the moment as I woke up yesterday morning, but I knew time would quickly come…the time when I had to watch the kids, and put them to bed, all by myself! AHHHH…the past few nights have been terrible, and that was with Andrea around. Asher fusing, Jadyn crying, Jadyn not wanting to go to bed, and then randomly yelling at us around 11:00 (hadn’t been to sleep yet - not sure what she had been doing the past few hours) that she wanted to come down and watch a movie. A movie?! It’s freaking 11:00 at night!
Last night wasn’t like that at all. The kids were great. Asher took a bottle around 8 and then knocked off long enough for me to put Jade to bed (doesn’t he look like a playa (in gansta voice) in his baseball PJ’s?). I even got a cup of coffee in middle of it all! I felt good the entire night - like I had my daddy mojo running.
There is something very satisfying about managing this chaos. I know it isn’t always this easy, but I would imagine little moments like the above make all the bad days worth it for my stay-at-home wife.

You know CJ they do make beds for baby’s, you don’t have to put them to sleep on the floor… I am just saying…
I love watching my Children sleep. Not because they aren’t needing my 100% attention, but because my 100% attention is drawn to their innocence I have been given the duty to protect.
ckroboth’s last blog post…El Kana… Revisit.

What a little sweetheart. He looks so cute and precious. I like these pictures much better than the year book pictures. Maybe you can try it again with the year book pictures after he is a year old. I am looking forward to seeing all of you again before too long…..Love ya

I vaguely remember those days (I have large chunks of it blocked from my memory). The one thing we used to tell ourselves when our kids were being especially hard and we were surviving on next to no sleep was, ‘This too shall pass.’
Fortunately, the moments of peace and beauty make up for all the messy diapers, screaming kids and no sleep.

@Alyson Wolf » let me take a guess…..
@CK » in my house, wherever stops crying is where he sleeps…. on a more serious note, I completely agree with your last comment. I especially love the protection part of that. Well said!
@Grandma » yeah, the yearbook photos didn’t turn out so hot for Asher - he kinda looks like Jaba the hut
@Brad » Any way of making the “shall pass” thing happen sooner than later?
