I’m Getting Old, Fat & Out Of Shape

Its been coming along nicely for the past 3 years…ironically, its about the same time I started working full time. I used to be very fit, but that was when I was running around like a mad man on the soccer field and never had time to eat. Not the case any more. I don’t “run around” anywhere and I ALWAYS find time to eat - especially when I have a wife that can cook the way my wife does!

Well, that stops now - seriously. I know the timing couldn’t be more terrible….Halloween today, Thanksgiving next month, Christmas the month after that - eating, eating, eating…sleeping, sleeping, sleeping. Well, I don’t think there is ever a great time to start not being fat, so why not do it now.

Why am I posting about my gut to all of you? Well, I think its great accountability when there are well over 100 different people to hold you accountable. I’m going to set a goal and make it an easy one - 5-10 pounds by January 1. I’m going to do this by cutting down on the food intake, exercising more (and by “more” I mean actually doing it) and no foods late at night. I’ll keep you all updated on my progress and please let me know if some of you are on the same journey.

I’m with you man…I took a break from my diet for the past 3 months and am now back on. Together we can change the world…or at least lose some of this unwanted weight.

I’ve packed on 20lbs in the past year. So I am with yah on trying to get back in shape. My goal is to gain nothing over the holiday season. If I can lose a few lbs that would be awesome..but I am just tryin tone up what I’ve gained.

Yeah, I’ve been slowly trimming it off myself. High cholesterol and a new kid will change the way you think about Krispy Kreme.

Well, it won’t change the way I think about it, just the way I act towards it…

I just passed my 25th birthday. I’ve been married for 2 1/2 years. In those 2.5 yrs I’ve managed to gain about 30 pounds. My goal? Just like Adam… STOP GAINING WEIGHT! Besides, jeans are expensive when you have to keep buying larger sizes…

One question - Do these pants make my butt look big?

I’m with you on this. this last Spring/Summer I dropped 20lbs. I want to drop 10 more by January.

tam, is right on her suggestions. Also, my big thing is sugar. Trying to keep it out of my diet completely. Also, eat breakfast. I have oatmeal every morning.

I’ll join you on this. the next 2 months will be tough with Thanksgiving, Christmas and lots of good food, but I know you can do it!

    Season’s Greetings!
(I say that all year round in case you wondered)

    I’m 28, male, and overweight. I’m about 6′3″ and weigh about 100kg.

Earlier this year I weighed 115kg and lost the extra 15kg in about 6 weeks.
Like a Monk, I stuck to my diet. I did not exercise at all because I was and still am pretty lazy.

    — Breakfast:
A SMALL bowl of Bran Flakes (maybe the one with fruit/raisins if you prefer) with Skimmed Milk. (Skimmed milk = no fat = OK for diet in small amounts)
Every few days, have a boiled egg with ONE slice of toast, preferably nice big, tasty wholemeal bread.
    — Lunch:
Instant soup (”cup-a-soup”), any flavour - Change it each day!
    ONE slice of toast.
    — Dinner:
One ’strip of meat’ - Chicken breast, beef, pork (YEP, pork!), lamb, etc. ALL FAT AND SKIN REMOVED - WASH THE FATTY GUNK OFF THE MEAT.
Sliced peppers with a very small dash of Olive Oil (personal favourite. I once even had a Pepper Sandwich, no joke!)
    — The Additional Pig-out
EXACTLY ONCE PER WEEK, have a small pig-out meal.
This does not mean a 3-hour buffet marathon!
I used to have a small (9″) pizza, or a double cheeseburger, or something similar - A SMALL pig-out.
This mini-pig-out is key to the diet. It keeps your body thinking you’re eating like a fatty (metabolism?) and it psychologically satisfies your piggy instincts to have that juicy burger or fresh pizza.
Remember, do this EXACTLY ONCE per week, not twice, and dont miss it. I ’saved’ my pig-out meal for the saturday night when I was out with my friends. Hey, no sneaky business! Moving the day forward each week to get that extra meal every 7 weeks is breaking the rules.
Go eat a bucket of carrots instead, you donkey!
    — Vegetable pigging-out
Lots of different types of vegetables. AS MANY AND AS MUCH VEGETABLES AS YOU LIKE. PIG OUT ON VEGETABLES AT YOUR WILL. Really, go for it. Instad of crisps/chips, popcorn, chocolate, whatever, just eat a big bowl of whatever vegetables you like, whenever you like. Try using different types of spice to change it each day. I don’t thnk powdered spices are fatty in any way so in small doses they should be fine. Ask someone who knows more than me about which powdered spices go well with which vegetables.

Remember to weigh yourself at least once a week. Once a day if you like. Remember to note your results and most importantly keep the measurements consistent. That means always weigh yourself naked and after taking a dump so that you’re not carrying any ‘excess’ weight. The numbers WILL be all over the place for the first few weeks - It’s normal.
Remember, whenever you fee hungry, you can pig out whenver you like on vegetables that have no additional fatty oils or toppings. I ate tomatoes, lettuice, and cucumber like some kind of epidemic eating away at the world’s vegetable supply.

I barely ever felt hungry. In fact, after the first week I felt full from this diet. I was never out of energy.
I must admit that I was a heavy smoker (I quit two weeks ago!) and I am a very light drinker (alcohol = liquid fat = bad for any diet).

Good luck. If anyone does try this I hope you get the same results as me. I’m going back on this diet now that I’ve quit smoking so you’re not alone on this journey!
    (I’m about 100kg and I’m aiming for 85kg ASAP)

This diet was given to me by a friend who was fatter than me at one point and is now prety much an in-shape fitness/health know-it-all who got the results he worked for. (Thanks, Andy F!)

[Disclaimer: I am not a doctor so please don't assume that this is safe for you. Please ask your doctor before trying anything. It worked for me but even if your doctor approves, there's no guarantee that it will give you the same results]
